“I went back to my roots,” says Émilie Tiersen (née Quinquis). “And I realised how much Breton culture was a part of me.”
Émilie Tiersen has, over the course of two albums and several years, made music as Tiny Feet and is now, with the release of Seim, her debut for Mute, known as QUINQUIS. The name change is symbolic; simultaneously paying homage to her personal and family history by referencing her maiden name, as well as representing a fresh start musically. “It’s been a new start for many things,” Émilie says. “Self-acceptance has been a really big thing for me.”
A note from Mute Records about the colour;
Thank you for buying the QUINQUIS album SEIM in its dinked edition form. There was a slight misinterpretation regarding the definition of “wisps” between Mute and the German pressing plant. Mute were expecting quite definitive orange wisps in the clear vinyl, but the process has given the return of a distinctly orange vinyl with really really subtle wisps within it. The process is a manual one and it may well be the person holding the bucket of orange wisps tipped the bucket a little too far. We still think it looks great and most importantly you can still hear the beautiful sounds of the album.
